WHAT IS BIODYNAMICS?
Biodynamic agriculture works on the principles of holistic and spiritual understanding of nature and its relationship to humans, animals and plants. It was pioneered by Rudolf Steiner, an Austrian philosopher, scientist and social reformer who is better known for the system of schooling which bears his name.

The basis of Steiner’s system of agriculture was that the planting of crops should be done in conjunction with the phases of the moon and take into account the relationship of the planets and signs of the zodiac. Steiner’s methods have proved to be remarkably successful and recently it was revealed that Prince Charles has been trialling some of these on his Dutchy Home Farm.

Biodynamic agriculture however goes further than this and includes the homeopathic treatment of animals, fertilisation of crops with home produced manure and minerals, and the production of bio-dynamic preparations of herbs and minerals for pest control, etc. The overall aim is to create a truly sustainable system of agriculture.
