Details
The single global marketplace we all inhabit is built on the notion of a solid, growing supply of cheap oil and gas for decades to come. But that bedrock is about to crack and crumble. And the oil companies know it. As geologists, civil servants and industry insiders in this hard hitting book tell us, the day the wells start to run dry is a lot closer than most people think.

This is one of the first UK peak oil books, and follows on the heels of Paul Mobbs' indispensible Energy Beyond Oil. Half Gone is Jeremy Leggett's contributon to the peak oil literature, and its very welcome. I enjoyed Half Gone. It gives a clear sense of the problems we face, and is an upbeat assessment of the solutions that might ease our way through them. Whether you agree with Leggett's belief in technology's ability to build a sustainable tomorrow, or feel that the changes to our ways of living will go much deeper than he suggests, you will find this book useful. He does a great job of setting out how climate change and peak oil, rather than being two separate problems, are both part of the same problem. Formulating successful strategies for dealing with both requires this more holisitc approach. (Posted on 07/07/2010)Review
