Follows on from The Limits to Growth, which raised the alarm that we have already over-shot the planet's carrying capacity. Marshalling a vast array of new data and incorporating the latest thinking on sustainability, ecological footprinting and limits, this new book presents future overshoot scenarios. This is compelling, essential and indeed necessary reading for all concerned with our common future.

- essential reading for anyone who's seriously interested in sustainability Review by Patrick Whitefield, author of the Earth Care Manual, review in Permaculture magazine
-
This is an important book. If you really want to understand what's really going on on Earth, read it. It is an update of the classic 1972 Limits to Growth, the book that showed conclusively that you can't have infinite economic growth on a finite planet.Review
The book is centered on a series of computer projections. These show future trends in factors such as industrial output, pollution, population, human welfare index etc. for the world under different sets of assumptions. The authors stress that these projections are not actual predictions in a numerical sense...but they do indicate the shape of things to come under various scenarios. The book is accessibly written and requires no previous knowledge. It's essential reading for anyone who's seriously interested in sustainability. (Posted on 08/07/2010)
