Biodynamic growing is the controversial equivalent to homeopathy in the agricultural world. It is based on Rudolf Steiner’s series of lectures given in 1924 suggesting ways to heal the earth and work with the energies of earth, moon, sun and planets as well as specific plants like yarrow, nettle, oak and preparations made from cow dung and horn. This film, presented by Lynette West of the Biodynamic Education Centre, is a masterclass for three gardeners from Organic Garden Ryton. She introduces biodynamics, explains what the special biodynamic preparations (what they are and what they do), and decodes the sowing and planting calendars and composting techniques.

Moving on to explaining lunar rhythms and the influences of the planets, Lynette then demonstrates exactly how to make and use manures, compost teas, and preparations. She is very clear and precise and the film demystifies what are intricate processes.
